Paul downs Tiafoe to reach ATP Delray Beach final

Miami, Feb 17, 2024 (AFP) -

Tommy Paul advanced to the final of the ATP Delray Beach Open on Saturday with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over fellow American Frances Tiafoe.

Paul, who won his second career ATP title last week at Dallas, needed only 61 minutes to oust the second seed and book a date in Sunday's final.

Third-seeded Paul will play for the title against either top-seeded defending champion Taylor Fritz or Marcos Giron, who meet later Saturday.

Paul stretched his win streak to seven matches to equal his ATP career best.

Paul, ranked 14th in the world, improved to 3-1 in ATP matches against 15th-ranked Tiafoe, having lost their first matchup at Delray in 2020 but then winning a 2021 Stockholm semi-final on his way to the title and in Auckland in 2022.

World number nine Fritz owns a 3-1 career edge against 52nd-rated Giron, who seeks his third ATP final after losing at Dallas and at San Diego in 2022.
