ANUGERAH Guru Inspirasi (AGI) McDonald's is back for its sixth year to honour the nation's unsung heroes — teachers who have gone above and beyond in educating, developing and inspiring students.
The annual award highlights exceptional teachers who go above and beyond to assist students while providing them the freedom to pursue their own learning, creating an academic climate in which kids can thrive.
Dato' Azmir Jaafar, managing director and local operating partner of McDonald's Malaysia, said the country saw significant changes in the education system in the past two years.
Teachers had to transition from in-person classes to fully remote online classes and different versions of hybrid learning in between.
"That is why it is all the more important for Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald's to continue to celebrate these teachers in 2022, for their substantial efforts in ensuring that there's a continuation of education for students across the nation," said Dato' Azmir.
He added, "These teachers inspire students to grow as individuals in realising their potential and aspirations. They sacrifice their needs for the needs of students while becoming a positive influence in the students' life that can shift their perspectives and make a significant impact in their lives."
ANUGERAH GURU INSPIRASI
From now through April 2, 2022, Malaysians can nominate inspiring teachers by sharing the narrative of their 'Cikgu Luar Biasa' in Bahasa Malaysia, English or Chinese.
Twenty-five teachers will be awarded as winners, each of whom will receive a RM5,000 cash prize. On the other hand, RM200 in McDonald's gift vouchers will be handed out as a token of appreciation to Malaysians who submitted the winning nominations.
Since its inception in 2017, AGI McDonald's has received over 19,000 nominations, with over 106 noteworthy teachers being recognised across the country.
Students, parents and the public can nominate their extraordinary teachers and share their stories with McDonald's in three simple steps:

STEP 2: Submit the nomination form and write about how your teacher has inspired you (in Bahasa Malaysia, English, or Mandarin)
STEP 3: Submit any supporting photos of your teacher (optional)
Eligibility requirements:
Teachers that match the qualifications on the website can be nominated by students, parents, or the teaching fraternity.
Nominated teachers must be Malaysian citizens who are currently teaching in public or private schools in any Malaysian state.
A panel of judges comprised of representatives from McDonald's, the Ministry of Education and the media will select the winners based on the following criteria:
Enhancing students' academic performance
Using innovative and out-of-the-box teaching approaches
Going above and beyond the call of duty to aid students
Having a positive impact on students
GIVING BACK
Apart from honouring teachers, McDonald's Malaysia takes pride in connecting with and giving back to the community through its year-round Program Komuniti @ McDonald's & Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
RMHC, which focuses on the pillars of education, health and welfare for deserving children and families, is also supported by McDonald's.
More than 12,000 children's birthdays were celebrated in 400 orphanages around the country last year, while 21,000 pupils received RM1.66 million worth of "Back-To-School" packs.
