uab bank announces exclusive sponsorship to Myanmar badminton star

UAB bank, voted Myanmar's Best Bank by Euromoney, recently announced the exclusive main sponsorship to Myanmar badminton star Thet Htar Thuzar.

As the exclusive main sponsor, the bank will contribute towards Thet’s journey and dream to participate in 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The signing was held at the bank’s new head office, uab Tower @ Times City.

Managing director and chief executive officer of UAB Bank, Christopher Loh said the Olympics is the dream of all great athletes and represent the pinnacle of an athlete’s journey.

“Since the first modern Olympics in the year 1896, many great athletes globally have competed and brought honour to their country.

“Often these athletes lack the support needed to compete on this global platform. At uab bank, we believe in nurturing the future leaders of Myanmar and are extremely honoured and privileged to have this opportunity to support Myanmar badminton’s rising superstar,” he said.

Thet, meanwhile, said she was extremely grateful to the bank for believing in her and supporting her journey towards the 2020 Olympics.

“It truly means a lot to me as it is the pursuit of my personal dream and the chance to represent our country.

“As an athlete, the Olympics represent the pinnacle of achievement and push an athlete to go beyond the limitations of the mind and body.

“This contribution from uab bank is making my dream to the Olympics possible. I am so grateful, and as an athlete, I am always proud to represent Myanmar around the world,” she said.

Thet grew up in Thailand with her parents and moved back to Myanmar when she was 11 years old.

As an athletically precocious child, she started training in the badminton courts since she was seven years old and won six imperial awards from the King of Thailand.

She participated at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in her home country Myanmar and won her first International title at the Egypt International Badminton Tournament 2018. She is ranked 65 on the world badminton rankings.
