Thailand deports 10,000 Cambodian workers

PHNOM PENH: Thailand deported 9,979 undocumented migrant workers through Poipet City in western Cambodia this year.

Pok Nady, a deputy provincial governor for Banteay Meanchey said deported migrant workers said they faced numerous risks while working abroad illegally.

“This is why we have officials at the border to counsel them before they are sent back to their home provinces,” she added during a National Committee for Counter Trafficking event in Poipet recently, as reported by the Khmer Times.

The bodies of 104 workers who died in Thailand were also repatriated.

Interior Minister Sar Kheng urged the authorities to crack down on human trafficking cases.
