Filipinos support Duterte's handling of Covid-19 crisis

MANILA: An opinion poll showed that nine out of 10 people approved of how Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The survey by Pulse Asia revealed that 91 per cent approved of his performance, five per cent disapproved while the rest were undecided, according to the Inquirer.com portal.

The poll, dubbed the Ulat ng Bayan Nationwide Survey, was conducted from Sept 14 to Sept 20.

The survey is based on a sample of 1,200 representative adults 18 years old and above.

In the same survey, Vice-President Leni Robredo had a 57 per cent approval rating, with 22 per cent disapproval while 21 per cent were undecided.

Senate President Tito Sotto scored an 84 per cent approval rating with six per cent disapproval and 10 per cent undecided.

House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano had a 70 per cent approval, 10 per cent disapproval and 19 per cent undecided.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta has the lowest score among the top government officials with 44 per cent approval, 13 per cent disapproval and 37 per cent undecided,.

Pulse Asia stated the "public assessment of these officials' performance is essentially unchanged between December last year and September this year."

In trust ratings, Duterte lead with 91 per cent.

He was followed by Sotto with a 79 per cent trust rating, Cayetano with 67 per cent, Robredo with 50 per cent, and Peralta with 39 per cent.
