Indonesia to launch "second home visa" to lure investors, billionaires

JAKARTA: Indonesia plans to launch a programme, dubbed the "second home visa", aimed at luring international investors and billionaires

Indonesian Immigration acting director general, Widodo Ekatjahjana, revealed this here on Thursday, reported Tempo.co.

The department, state ministries and other related agencies will be involved in the launch soon, said Widodo in an immigration-themed event.

"The second home visa is still in the finalisation stage, hopefully in the near future or maybe in the next few weeks, this program will become a regulation that will be enacted," he said.

"This special visa will be given to billionaires, the world's wealthy people, and investors to encourage the growth of investment in Indonesia, those who intend to stay longer in Indonesia," he said.

The policy is in line with the directives of President Joko Widodo to facilitate foreign investments in the country, he said adding the department is prepared to provide facilities that will encourage the growth of the investment climate.

The Second home visa itself will also be a tool for Global Talent, the Indonesian diaspora, and foreign elderly tourists, which will facilitate them to stay in Indonesia for a period of 5-10 years.

Widodo pledged to a plethora of immigration policies that provide convenience for foreign investors living in Indonesia and are ready to guarantee certainty for foreign entrepreneurs in running their businesses which will ultimately be able to contribute to the Indonesian economy.
