Thai soldier killed in Narathiwat 20kg bomb blast

NARATHIWAT: A Thai soldier was killed and another injured when a 20kg bomb exploded while they were conducting a motorcycle patrol in Bachok, Narathiwat yesterday.

The two were patrolling along the Kampung Cuwo-Gajah Mati route when the homemade bomb exploded at a road-shoulder about 6.30am local time.

The soldiers were sent to the Bachok Hospital where one of them succumbed to head and body injuries. The other was warded in serious but stable condition.

“At the time, the two soldiers, along with six of their colleagues were on security patrol on four motorcycles,” Bachok district police chief, Col Pattah Madawa told reporters here.

He said the police believed the homemade bomb was activated using a walkie-talkie.

According to Pattah, the police were still in the midst of identifying those responsible for the attack. -- BERNAMA
