Singaporean jailed for posting neighbour's naked pictures outside her flat

SINGAPORE: He created a Facebook account to try and lure women into having sex with him, and one woman he befriended turned out to be his neighbour.

Things went sour very quickly after they got acquainted, and he ended up harassing her and pasting her nude photograph at her door.

On Friday, Alvin Yeo Pei Jin, 48, was sentenced to 13 months’ jail, after he admitted to two counts of criminal intimidation, one count each of intentional harassment and mischief, as well as one count of insulting the modesty of a woman.

Another 10 charges for similar offences were taken into account during sentencing.

The court heard that Yeo created a Facebook account – using the fake name of “Happy Tan” and a picture of a Taiwanese man he found off the Internet – to court women and obtain their nude photos, especially middle-aged Chinese women with long hair.

Some time in early June last year, he hooked up with a 48-year-old woman. They exchanged phone numbers and chatted via WhatsApp.

When she sent him some photos of herself, he then recognised her to be his neighbour. He proceeded to ask for naked pictures of her and she also sent those.

He told her later that he knew who she was and where she lived.

Yeo also told the woman “to wear a paper bag over her head” when she went to work. By mid-June, she was inundated by his WhatsApp messages, so she decided to block him on the phone and on Facebook, and filed a police report.

On June 19, as she was about to go out with her two children, she spotted her nude photo – with a portion of her face ripped off – pasted outside her apartment.

Later that evening, her son returned home to find another piece of paper outside their home with these Chinese words written on it: “Tomorrow if you don’t reply to my message, I will come post your big face at the door”. She lodged another police report.

Yeo was arrested by the police three months later at Changi Airport. His mobile phone was found to contain five videos, taken in Dec 2009, of an unknown woman showering in a bathroom.

Investigations revealed that he had taken videos of his ex-colleague showering in his company’s unisex toilet.

He had also threatened a 52-year-old woman whom he had met through Facebook, saying he would post her nude photos on the Internet if she did not want to have sex with him.

For criminal intimidation, Yeo could have been jailed up to two years and/or fined.

He could also have been jailed up to six months and/or fined up to S$5,000 for intentional harassment.

For mischief and insulting a woman’s modesty, he could have been jailed up to a year and/or fined for each of the offence. – TODAY ONLINE
