KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter Scale, struck the Minahassa Peninsula of Sulawesi at 8.34 am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
It said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was 281 kilometres northwest of Gorontalo, Indonesia, and 393 kilometres southeast of Semporna, Sabah.
The quake did not pose any threat of a tsunami, it said. -- Bernama
