KUALA LUMPUR: The Japanese have once again proven to the world that they are a people with a strong sense of civic duty.

After the Blue Samurai's achievement of being the first Asian team to beat a South American side in a World Cup match on June 19, fans celebrated by… staying back at the Saransk stadium in Russia and tidying up after themselves.

Several viral videos show Japanese fans systematically picking up and disposing of trash into plastic bags while donning Blue Samurai jerseys.

The videos have earned high praise by netizens for showing that even though they triumphed, the Japanese made sure to clean up before partying down.

In the match where odds were stacked against the island nation, the Japanese took advantage of Colombia's 10-man squad after defender Carlos Sanchez earned the first red card of the championship for a blatant handball.

Former Manchester United striker Shinji Kagawa scored the resulting penalty.

The Colombians squeezed in an equaliser with a free kick by Juan Quintero minutes before the half-time break.

Yuya Osako secured the vital three points for Akira Nishino's side after scoring a winner in the 73rd minute.
