Blackout hits parts of Singapore for 38 minutes

SINGAPORE: Electricity supply to parts of Singapore was disrupted early this morning, affecting some 146,797 residential and commercial customers, according to SP Power.

The power utilities firm said the supply, which was disrupted at 1.18am, was fully restored within 38 minutes.

SP Power said the areas affected were Boon Lay, Choa Chu Kang, Clementi, Jurong, Pandan Loop, Aljunied, Geylang, Tanjong Rhu, Mountbatten, Kembangan, Bedok, East Coast, Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Thomson, Mandai, Admiralty, Sembawang and Woodlands.

The affected areas are mainly at the northern and eastern side of the Island city.

“In our preliminary findings, the disruption was due to partial loss of supply from two power generation units. Our investigations are ongoing,” it said in its latest update on Facebook this morning.

Meanwhile, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore said the cause of the supply disruption was being investigated.

“The Energy Market Authority takes a serious view of disruptions to Singapore’s electricity supply. We will review the outcome of our investigation before deciding on the action to take.

“We will also work with the industry to put in place measures to minimise the risk of such an incident happening again,” it said it a statement issued in its website. --Bernama
