Alarming number of dogs dying in Norway from 'mysterious disease'

DOG events in Oslo, Norway have been called off following a mysterious disease that has claimed the lives of a number of canines in the area.

In a report by Sputnik International, veterinarians in Oslo registered dozens of dogs developing sudden alarming symptoms which include vomitting blood and bloody diarrhoea.

The disease, yet to be identified, develops rapidly with some dogs dying while they were taken to the vet.

The report said that similar symptoms were now being recorded outside Oslo as well.

It said Norway's animal and food safety authority was now working closely with the state veterinarian institute, the Veterinarian College and animal hospitals to find out the cause of the outbreak.

A veterinarian, Sasja Rygg told Norwegian national broadcaster NRK, was quoted as saying that they believe at least 20 dogs have died with many more being sick.
