5.3 quake strikes North Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook North Sumatra in Indonesia at 8.58am today.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the quake occurred 125 kilometres west of Banda Acheh, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

However, it does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it added. - BERNAMA
