Doctors Without Borders nurse describes catastrophic conditions in Gaza Strip

KUALA LUMPUR: The Gaza Strip is catastrophic and words can't describe it, according to a Doctors Without Borders (MSF) nurse working in Northern Gaza.

In rare contact with one of its staff members who is working within Northern Gaza, MSF posted a video of over a minute, on their X account, of a phone call audio recording with one of its nurses Loay Harb to describe the situation there.

The situation, as described by Harb, is beyond words and can only be described as catastrophic, with the dire lack of food and medical assistance.

He said there is no electricity, water, flour or internet connection to communicate with the outside world, which has created instability for the people there.

"We are going through very difficult times due to the siege, poverty, and starvation,"

"The medical situation of patients is very complex and there are crowds of displaced people in the hospital, which makes it difficult for us to do our job" he added in the video.

He said that the hospital isn't made to hold this huge number of patients and due to overcrowding, there are not enough beds and limited space, and some patients are forced to be placed on the floor.

Harb is one of four remaining MSF staffers in Gaza City. He and another nurse are volunteers at the Al-Shifa Hospital daily, and they do dressing changes for patients at the MSF clinic in Gaza.

At the MSF clinic, Harb said that they still receive patients with burns and war wounds, but try to give basic healthcare they can although with the minimum resources.

"Some of the patients have difficulty reaching our clinic to continue their treatment because the roads are destroyed.

"So I prepare dressing kits for them and I guide them on how to change their dressings," he added.

Israel has waged a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip, killing more than 31,500 Palestinians in Gaza, mostly women and children, and injuring 73,546 amid mass destruction and shortages of necessities. — Bernama
