Thai man tries to kill sister-in-law, shoots wife dead instead

BANGKOK: A man's attempt to shoot his sister-in-law after a quarrel went awry when he shot his wife dead instead.

Thai news portal The Thaiger reported that officers from the Pakchong police station arrived at the scene in the Pakchong district of Nakhon Ratchasima last night, and found the dead body of Nongnuch Permpiphat, 41, outside a house with a bullet wound in her back.

Nongnuch's sister, Nittaya Permpiphat, 39, was found inside the house with two gunshot wounds to her right leg and stomach.

The siblings' mother told the police that the gunman was Nongnuch's husband, Nueng Homjantuek, 28.

He had fled the scene after the shooting.

The victims' mother said prior to the incident, Atirat had engaged in a heated argument with Nittaya's husband, Win, over the phone.

Atirat, allegedly intoxicated, later arrived at Win's residence and fired a shot into the air. This prompted Nittaya, Win and Nongnuch to go outside, where Atirat then fired the gun at Nittaya and injured her.

In an attempt to protect her sister, Nongnuch intervened and was subsequently shot in the back.

The Thaiger also reported that Atirat did not stop his attacks despite shooting his wife.

It was reported that he had chased after his sister-in-law who was trying to seek refuge inside the house. Atirat then shot her twice.

Atirat's family members surrendered him to the police at 10.30am local time today.
