JOHOR BARU: Tourism Johor is set welcome over 20 million foreigners to the state this year.
Its director, Sharil Nizam Abdul Rahim, said 16 million foreigners visited Johor last year, mostly from Singapore, so achieving the 20-million target this year was doable.
The state is banking on its key tourism segments namely eco-tourism, sports, medical, education, historical and gastronomy.
To achieve its target, Tourism Johor will be collaborating with state authorities to ensure services, transportation system, infrastructure, iconic landmarks and attractions, among others, are well maintained.
Sharil Nizam said in preparation for Visit Johor Year 2026, Tourism Johor was monitoring upgrading work on state attractions including the Johor Zoo and the state national park.
"Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who had taken the state tourism portfolio in a recent state executive council reshuffle, will be updated with the tourism project progress regularly," he said, after the Johor Baru central business district heritage walk launch, here today.
