KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ahmad Najmi Abdul Razak, the deputy president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC), has been appointed as the new national team manager.
Najmi, who is also the national team committee chairman, replaces Mirnawan Nawawi.
"I have discussed the matter with coaching committee chairman Datuk Majid Manjit Abdullah, and all parties have agreed to appoint Ahmad Najmi as the new team manager," said MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal after MHC's buka puasa function here on Saturday.
"He is an experienced person, and he will start as team manager with immediate effect."
Najmi's first task as team manager will be the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh from May 4-11.
National coach Sarjit Singh will trim down his training squad from 46 to 30 players tomorrow.
He will pick 18 players for the tournament after the friendly against New Zealand in Ipoh on May 1.
