'I want Selangor fans to smile again, said new coach Sathianathan

KUALA LUMPUR: 'We will win a title!'

B. Sathianathan said this after he was appointed as Selangor’s new coach for next season.

The announcement of his appointment was made via Facebook live.

The 60-year-old replaces Nazliazmi Nasir, who took Selangor to the FA Cup final last season.

However Sathianathan, who guided Felda United to the Premier League crown last season, admitted that it will not be easy to help Selangor regain their glory days.

"I am proud of this appointment and I can't wait to start work with Selangor even though the responsibility is huge.

“I will try and win at least one trophy next season. I want Selangor fans to smile again.

"If all officials, coaches and players give their 100 per cent, I am confident we can do something special,” said Sathianathan who signed a one-year contract with the club.

His best achievements in the M-League were guiding Kelantan to the Malaysia Cup in 2010 and Armed Forces to the Premier League in 2012.

He was also the coach of the national under-23 team that won the Merdeka tournament in 2007. He also coached the national team between 2007-09.

He plans to sign five new players in addition to Kedah winger Syazwan Zainon.

"Selangor have talented youth players in A. Namathevan, K. Kannan, Sean Selvaraj and Syahmi Safari. And I hope veteran Amri Yahyah will be able to rally the others,” he added.
