Peng Soon off to winning start with new partner

Veteran Chan Peng Soon is confident he and his young mixed doubles partner, Valeree Siow, can go far.

Yesterday, the newly formed pair cleared the first round at the India Open in New Delhi by thrashing India's Raju Mohamed Rehan-Jamaludeen Anees Kowsar 21-4, 21-9.

Peng Soon, 34, and Valeree, 20, will play another Indian pair, Kashish Sharma-Saruni Sharma, in the second round today.

Peng Soon, who recently rejoined the national setup, said: "Our opponents today were not the strongest, and so we capitalised on that.

"Valeree is a skilful player, she just needs experience. As for our partnership, we need some time. I believe we can go far."

Meanwhile Ng Tze Yong got his 2022 campaign off to a flying start by stunning Indonesian veteran Tommy Sugiarto 21-16, 14-21, 21-5 in the men's singles first round.
