KUALA LUMPUR: Year end sales and last minute Christmas shopping might be among the main cause of traffic congestion in most city roads, today.
Traffic checks on most roads in the heart of Kuala Lumpur showed traffic congestion and some were at standstill. Traffic on highways, however are smooth moving or clear.
As of checks at 3pm, the worst affected roads, to name a few are Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Dang Wangi, Jalan Imbi and Jalan Maharajalela.
Traffic on major highways are mostly smooth except at certain stretch along PlusHighways and KL-Karak towards Genting where traffic is at a crawl.
Traffic is also slow moving at Menora Tunnel KM257, near the Simpang Ampat exit KM216, Gua Tempurung KM 305, Jelapang KM265 and Seberang Jaya KM135.
A Malaysian Highway Authorities spokesman when contacted said no major crashes have been reported so far on the major highways and traffic is relatively smooth in most highways.
"East coast Highway on both directions are empty and clear, as well. Some city roads experience slow traffic but situation seems to be gradually improving," he said.
