Stray dog menace in Klang

A maze of narrow alleys between closely-packed houses has attracted stray dogs to a housing area in Klang.

Wan told Actionline that the dogs had been rummaging through the garbage, making a mess.

“The dogs have been making Taman Klang Jaya in Klang, especially Jalan Selampit 26, their home since 2015.

“It would not have mattered if the dogs do not cause disturbances.

“With the new ruling, residents must now place their garbage in front of the house for collection.

“This worsens the problem as the dogs would tear up the garbage bags,” he said.

Wan said the dogs were also noisy. “For the whole day, they would just bark, which incites dogs owned by residents. It is such a nuisance.

“I have witnessed and saved some elderly people from being chased by the dogs.”

Wan said he hoped that the local authority would take action on the matter.

A Klang Municipal Council (MPK) spokesman said it had conducted operations to capture stray dogs in the area.

“We take action based on complaints lodged by the public and it is safe to say that MPK has always conducted operations.”

The spokesman said it was normal for stray dogs to cause disturbance in the area.

“Based on investigations by the MPK’s Health Department, the stray dogs were abandoned by their owners.

“This happens when the owners grew bored of having the dog as pet due to sickness or old age.

“Hence, they would abandon the dogs.

“Because of that, the dogs would feel neglected and would act out, especially if they felt threatened,” the spokesman said.
