“DISGUSTED” and “unhygienic” were how residents described the presence of pests at the commercial area of Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
A resident, who only wanted to be identified as Christine, said cockroaches could be seen in the drain at the commercial area in Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi.
“It is disgusting as the drain is located in the back lane of a mamak restaurant in the neighbourhood,” she said.
She added that the cockroaches could also be found in the back alley of her house.
“Dead cockroaches have been appearing for the past two to three weeks,” she said.

A Kuala Lumpur City Hall spokesman said that City Hall will send its officers to the location to check on the problem.
“We will investigate the surrounding area to find the cause of the problem,” he said.
He said if restaurant operators or shopowners did not take care of the cleanliness of their premises, City Hall would issue a notice to shut down the premises or issue them with a compound.
The spokesman, however, did not reveal the specific amount of the fine but said it could go up to “a few thousand ringgit”.
“So far, we have not conducted any operations or inspections in that area but we will send our officers following this complaint.”
