They park as they wish

MOTORISTS who refuse to obey the one-way traffic rule and no entry signs at the main road along Jalan SS6/3 in Petaling Jaya have led to many near-misses.

They have disregarded the yellow lines by parking on them, to avoid paying parking fees or using the basement car park.

A road user, who wanted to be identified only as Amira, said vehicles parked on the yellow lines near a commercial centre between Jalan SS6/3 and Jalan SS6/5, and Jalan SS6/2 and Jalan SS6/14, were causing traffic snarls.

She said Jalan SS6/2 had become the main illegal parking area, making it impossible for motorists to make U-turns.

“I have called the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) enforcement division on illegal parking many times. But, there has been just one enforcement. Reports have also been lodged with the Kelana Jaya police station on the same issue. Their only response, so far, is that they will patrol the affected areas.”

ACTIONLINE:

MBPJ corporate communication assistant director Abdul Hakim Khairuddin said the council would instal a “no entry”, clamp as well as tow signs to deter motorists from parking illegally by the end of this month.

Using complaints about the issue in Jalan SS6, MBPJ enforcement division has issued 4,159 compounds from January to last month.

Hakim said Jalan SS6/3 topped the list with 2,521 compounds, Jalan SS6/2 (989), Jalan SS6/14 (368) and Jalan SS6/5 (281).
