Slippery mats a danger to children

ARAU: The poor maintenance of a playground near the Istana Arau and night market here is posing a danger to the public.

A parent said mats placed on the ground near the slides, swings and monkey bars at the playground were slippery and broken in some places.

He added that several children were injured while playing at the spot.

Fareez Roslan, 33, said his 2- year-old daughter sustained injuries to the ankle and forehead three weeks ago when she slipped and fell on the rubber mats.

Her head hit the bricks near the mats, he added.

The civil servant said a pregnant woman, who was walking with her child, slipped and fell on the mats recently.

“Fortunately, my daughter and the pregnant woman did not sustain any serious injuries.

“The authorities must take immediate action to fix the mats to prevent more children and adults from falling and getting hurt.”

Fareez said the playground was a popular spot for residents in the area.
