Aaron stays calm despite living dangerously

KUALA LUMPUR: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik are not pushing the panic button despite surviving a tough second round match at the Asian Championships (BAC) today.

The former men's doubles world champions had to dig deep before overcoming Japan's Kenya Mitsuhashi-Hiroki Okumura 21-18, 14-21, 21-14 to reach the last eight at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre.

Aaron-Wooi Yik, finalists from two years ago, will play homesters Liu Yu Chen-Ou Xuan Yi next.

When contacted by Timesport, Aaron said: "Actually, there is no need for panic. Wooi Yik and I are still in control.

"I know the scores show otherwise but that was because we made too many unforced errors in the second game.

"In the third, we regained our rhythm and were back in control."

Asked to comment on the quarter-finals, Aaron said: "We are ready for the last eight. It will all depend on how well we prepare ourselves for the match."

On paper, the China pair have a slight edge (4-3) over the Malaysians, but Aaron-Wooi Yik have won three of their last four encounters.

Also reaching the quarter-finals were world No. 19 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.

The Malaysians won the first game 21-11 before their world No. 11 opponents, He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu of China, retired after Xiang Yu sustained a back injury.

It was, however, the end of the road for national pair, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, who lost 21-18, 21-17 to Taiwan's Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Po Hsuan.
