Exposed roots a danger to people, houses

EXPOSED roots from an old tree in Seksyen 11, Petaling Jaya, pose danger to the public, especially during stormy weather.

Retiree Tam Yeng Siang feared the tree might fall on houses and cause damage if the situation was not resolved immediately.

“The old tree is leaning towards the houses and its roots are exposed.

“The culverts are also damaged by the roots as there is no support for the large tree.

“I fear that it might fall on houses, especially during stormy weather.

“The damaged culvert can no longer support the weight of the tree,” said the 71-year-old.

Tam also said he had notified
the local authorities about the
matter through its social media account about a year ago, but nothing had been done.

He hoped that the authority would take immediate action.

ACTIONLINE:

The Petaling Jaya City Council has been alerted on the complaint and has requested the Landscape Department to carry out an inspection of the area.

A council spokesman said removing the roots from the tree might cause damage to the drain.

“Therefore, we have asked the Landscape Department to inspect the area first before removal work is carried out.

“We will also conduct repair work on the damaged drain,” he said.
