Hawker stalls causing jams

MOTORISTS using Jalan Pinggir Zaaba in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, are distressed by the congestion caused by hawkers operating in parking spaces.

A motorist, who wanted to remain anonymous, said the it had been a problem for years.

She said five to six stalls operated there from 9am to 10pm daily.

“We are irked because they hog the parking lots.

“Hawkers should not be allowed to use public parking spaces.

“We are also irked by patrons of these stalls who park their vehicles haphazardly by the roadside.”

She said the stalls might attract pests and create garbage disposal problems.

“We are not sure if the hawkers have licences to operate there, but Kuala Lumpur City Hall should do something, perhaps relocate them somewhere suitable.”

ACTIONLINE:

Kuala Lumpur City Hall said the matter would be forwarded to its licensing and petty traders management department for further action.

“We will have to investigate first before any action can be taken against them if they are found to have flouted the law,” said a representative.
