MACC detains lawyer for allegedly receiving RM1.6 million bribe

IPOH: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a lawyer on suspicions of accepting a bribe, totaling RM1.6 million from an entrepreneur to conceal an investment scam case.

According to sources, the lawyer in his 30s, was picked up at a restaurant in Jalan Kuala Kangsar, here, about 11am today.

"The bribe is alleged to have been tendered to the lawyer to suppress an investment scam case involving a businessman.

"The arrest was made as soon as the lawyer received RM100,000 cash and two cheques amounting to RM1.5 million from the entrepreneur," said the source.

When contacted, Perak MACC director Ahmad Sabri Mohamed confirmed the arrest.

He said the lawyer would be presented before to court tomorrow for a remand application.
