Stench from clogged drain

CHILDREN at a Transit Centre in Lorong Datuk Sulaiman 2, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, have to put up with putrid smell from a drain.

A resident, who wants to be known as Siti, said the smell came from a clogged drain in front of the centre.

“Since it is the monsoon season, the water from the clogged drain keeps overflowing.”

She said the drain had been clogged since the end of last month.

She said most of the children were too young to understand that the water from the drain was dirty.

“The kids sometimes accidentally step on the puddles near
the drain and get themselves dirty.

“I have reported this matter to Kuala Lumpur City Hall on Oct 24, but no action has been taken.”

ACTIONLINE:

A City Hall spokesman said the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) had been in charge of clogged drains since 2011.

“Any problems that involve the structure of the drainage system will be under our authority. For example, if the drain collapses, then the public can report to City Hall.

“If the drain structure is in good condition, but is clogged, then a report should be lodged with SWCorp.”

A SWCorp spokesman said the officers went to the location as soon as a report was received from Actionline.

The complainant lodged a report with City Hall, but
nothing was done as the problem is under SWCorp,” the spokesman said.

She said cleaning contractors had been dispatched to the area.

“We expect the drain to be cleared by the end of the day.”
