Upset over clogged drains in Shah Alam

RESIDENTS of Section 8, in Shah Alam, Selangor, want the drains on Jalan 8/D cleared as soon as possible.

Kamaruddin Hassan claimed the local authorities had not cleared the drains in the area for months.

“A clogged drain can become a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes and rats,” he said.

He said he would often see rodents scurrying around a drain, on the path he took to reach the nearby surau at night.

Another resident, who preferred to be known as Zahira, said the drains in the area should be cleared fortnightly.

“When it rains, all the rubbish and dead leaves will overflow the drains.”

ACTIONLINE:

A spokesman from the Shah Alam Municipal Council (MBSA) said the council had directed its Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Department to appoint a contractor to clean up the drains.

“Following the complaint, a contractor has been appointed and the clean-up process is being completed.

“The department will monitor the drains to ensure they stayed clear of rubbish.”

He said if the contractor failed to carry out the maintenance work according to schedule, the council would issue a notice to the contractor.
