Shah Alam jogger slashed while fending off robber

SHAH ALAM: A man's daily pre-dawn jog around his neighbourhood turned awry yesterday after he was slashed repeatedly by an assailant armed with parang.

The 30-year-old was exercising in Section 27 here when the assailant on motorcycle attempted to rob him of his bag.

Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the victim, who works in a private company in Kuala Lumpur, resisted the attack.

"The victim pulled the bag and the assailant reacted by slashing him.

"The victim sustained injuries on his hands and was treated at the Shah Alam Hospital.

"We received a police report lodged by the victim's sister last night," he said, adding there were no losses involved.

Iqbal added that his men are hunting down the assailant, whose motorcycle registration plate could not be determined yet.

Investigations, he said, are ongoing under Section 394 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery and voluntarily causing hurt.

A picture of the victim with his bloodied hands and deep slash wounds went viral on social media.

In a post on X, @ZaraaZameen cautioned Shah Alam folk who liked going on jogs alone in the morning.

She wrote that someone in her Section 27 neighbourbood was slashed by a robber while jogging at 6am.

"Women should be careful. Even this man was not spared. I don't know how it would turn out if it was a woman (victim)."
