HAWKERS and traders at the Bercham wet market in Ipoh are upset about bird droppings and overflowing rubbish bins.
They said the 10-year-old market used to be one of the cleanest markets in the city.
Checks by Actionline showed bird droppings were evident not only on the floor, but also on the tables of the eateries.
The rubbish dumps were overflowing with garbage.
A hawker, who wished to be known as Lim, said he had to put up with bird droppings on his stall’s tables on a daily basis.
“I have to come early every day to clean up the furniture. I have been facing this problem for about seven years.
“I hope the local council will find the best way to tackle this problem.”

Ipoh City counsellor Aldrich Low Guo Nan said the council had installed four ultrasound devices in the wall of the market to solve the issue of bird droppings.
“The vibration and sound produced will scare the birds from entering the market.
“While we have caught hundreds of birds, we will continue to apply this method while trying to find a better way to solve this problem.”
On the garbage problem, Low said there were currently only five garbage trucks in operation.
‘The trucks have to collect garbage from 24 markets in Ipoh, thus delaying the collection of rubbish (in certain areas),” he added.
