'Punish those who throw rubbish into empty units'

IPOH: Residents of Rumah Pangsa Bercham here want Ipoh City Council to take stern action against irresponsible residents who throw rubbish into the building’s empty units.

Recently, Actionline reported that the residents were complaining about the dumping of rubbish at the back of their building.

A resident who wanted to be known as Lee said the problem would only be solved when residents stopped being selfish and if stern action was taken by the council.

“It is not hard to throw rubbish at designated areas on the ground floor but some of them take advantage of these empty units to throw their rubbish there,” he said.

“These areas are swarming with pests and we are afraid that these vermin will enter our homes. It will create an unhealthy environment, besides the bad smell.”

Ipoh City councillor Aldrich Low said there were seven empty units at Rumah Pangsa Bercham and some of the owners could not be contacted.

“The council conducted a gotong-royong with residents and members of non-governmental organisations recently.

“Two dump trucks were used to carry the rubbish,” he said.

Low added that some of the residents lacked civic-mindedness and were no cooperative.

“They should talk with and cooperate with the other residents and come out with their own solutions to create a better environment.”
