Losing sleep over mat rempit

RESIDENTS of Taman Bukit Emas, Senawang, Seremban, are having sleepless nights due to the racket caused by mat rempit.

Their housing area is located near the toll plaza of Senawang Highway, which has become an illegal race track for the motorcyclists.

The residents complained that mat rempit revved their engines and caused such a din as they raced up and down the highway at night.

A resident, who wanted to be known only as Kelvin, said mat rempit usually gathered around midnight during weekends and public holidays.

“They gather in a huge crowd and race until 2am or 3am.

“It gets so noisy at times that the residents have sleepless nights,” said Kevin, who has been living in the area for more than 20 years.

He said the residents had lodged several complaints with the police.

“Although the police carry out operations, mat rempit are back within a day or week to terrorise the neighbourhood.”
