Sorry state of jetty food court

THE  Penang Island City Council (MBPP) food court at Pengkalan Weld is in dire need of a facelift.

The food court, with about 10 stalls, is next to the ferry jetty, a strategic location for people to have their meals.

However, Penang folk are upset that the facade of the food court is in disrepair.

Checks reveal that the roof of the food court appeared to be unsafe and liable to break during bad weather.

Frequent jetty user Khatijah Mohamed, 31, said: “Rarely do we see people coming here to eat. Passers-by would never have guessed that this food court is still operating despite being located in the heritage zone.

“Hopefully, MBPP will fix this as soon as possible,” said Khatijah.

An MBPP spokesman said the council had taken note of the concerns on the poor condition of the food court.

“We are drafting the layout of the new look for the food court.

“Once completed, we will issue an open tender for the project. It will be done within the next few months.

“We apologise for the inconvenience but assure everyone that the people’s safety and comfort are our priority.”
