Traders at a food court fight over customers

KOTA BARU: A tussle over customers led to a fight between a group of traders at Medan Selera Laman Siti Khadijah here.

The incident on Monday is believed to have started with an argument between a group of men and women, believed to be the owners and employees of the premises at the food court, before it escalated to a fight

Kota Baru police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the police received two reports on the matter,

"Investigation showed that the fight is believed to have started with a tussle for customers between the traders at the food court.

"Both sides, who are premises owners in their 30s and 40s, have come to the Kota Baru police station to lodge their reports but a few hours laters, they retracted their reports as they said they wanted to resolve the matter themselves.

"However, we will continue with our investigation and will locate and arrest the suspects involved," said Rosdi in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code.

Rosdi said police will take action based on an 83-second video on the incident, which went viral since yesterday afternoon as the incident affected public order.

"The action of both parties to retract their police reports because they want to resolve the matter themselves is not a solution as the incident had affected public order.

"We will continue with our investigation as we do not want the public to become used to taking actions that are against the law," said Rosdi.
