Ringgit extends losses to open lower against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended yesterday’s losses to open lower today as most investors shifted their interest towards safe haven currencies, dealers said.

At 9.05 am, the local unit was quoted at 4.3300/3340 against the greenback from 4.3260/3290 at 6pm on Thursday.

The ringgit, however, was traded mixed against a basket of other major currencies.

It fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.1082/1122 from 3.1062/1088 on Thursday but strengthened versus the Japanese yen to 3.8921/8971 from yesterday’s 3.9203/9244.

The local unit appreciated against the British pound to 5.6078/6134 from 5.6398/6446 but contracted vis-a-vis the euro to 4.8102/8159 from 4.8096/8147 yesterday. -- Bernama
