MAHB passenger growth up 7pc to 11.36m

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) posted a 7.1 per cent growth in passengers at its network of airports, including Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (Istanbul SGIA), to 11.36 million in July from 10.61 million passengers, a year ago.

International traffic grew by 12.3 per cent year-on-year (yoy) to 5.32 million passengers, while domestic traffic improved by 2.9 per cent yoy to 6.04 million passengers, said MAHB in a Bursa Malaysia filing today.

Overall aircraft movements grew by 2.1 per cent, with international movements recording a 10.1 per cent increase.

Domestic movements, however, declined by 2.5 per cent from July 2016.

From July 2016 to July 2017, the group’s network of airports handled 8.5 per cent more traffic to 124.81 million passengers, the highest handled over a 12-month period.

Domestically, its Malaysia-based airports handled 8.34 million passengers in July. This was 5.2 per cent more than the 7.93 million passengers MAHB handled in July last year.

The international sector saw an increase of 11.7 per cent increase in the number of passengers handled, at 4.3 million passengers versus 3.85 million passengers recorded in July last year.
