Bursa Malaysia remain lower at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia remained broadly lower at mid-afternoon, tracking the retracement of Asian bourses and a sharp fall overnight on Wall Street, dragged by losses on blue-chip stocks led by Petronas Chemicals, Axiata and Maybank.

At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 3.26 points weaker at 1,773.05 after opening 3.97 points easier at 1,772.34 from Thursday's close of 1,776.31.

On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers by 479 to 266 with 339 counters unchanged, 763 counters untraded and 44 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 866.20 million shares worth RM747.22 million.

Petronas Chemicals, Axiata and Maybank contributed a combined 2.16 points to the composite index.

Petronas Chemicals lost 10 sen to RM7.18, Axiata fell three sen to RM4.82 and Maybank shed two sen to RM9.68.

Among heavyweights, Tenaga slid two sen to RM14.22, Sime Darby shed three sen to RM9.27, CIMB Group eased one sen each to RM6.76, while Public Bank added two sen to RM20.58.

Of actives, Compugates, JAG and MTouche were traded unchanged at three sen, 14.5 sen and 30 sen, respectively, Lotte Chemical call warrants shed 1.5 sen to 33 sen and Straits Inter Logistics warrants added half-a- sen to 13.5 sen.

The FBM Emas Index was down 21.44 points at 12,604.70, the FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 25.03 points to 12,741.20 and the FBMT 100 Index slipped 18.25 points to 12,263.66.

The FBM 70 decreased 6.18 points to 14,972.84 and the FBM Ace dropped 34.21 points to 6,542.10.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index declined 28.59 points to 16,761.20, the Industrial Index eased 2.59 points to 3,226.05 and the Plantation Index fell 13.29 points at 7,765.66. -- BERNAMA
