MCMC, Indian telecom regulator sign cooperation agreement

NEW DELHI: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) have signed a deal to jointly work on capacity building in broadcasting and telecommunications regulation.

The agreement was signed by MCMC chairman Datuk Seri Dr Halim Shafie and TRAI chairman Ram Sewak Sharma.

It would help both regulators to work closely in enhancing cooperation and bilateral relations, TRAI said in a statement, on Tuesday.

The agreement will allow exchange of information and regulatory best practices in broadcasting and telecommunications.

The two regulators have agreed to cooperate in international and regional forums such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The MCMC chairman also attended the Asia-Pacific regulators’ roundtable meeting organised by the ITU and TRAI in New Delhi on August 21-22.
