Berjaya's founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan returns to BCorp

KUALA LUMPUR: Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) has announced the return of Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun as the Group’s executive chairman with immediate effect.

Currently, he is the adviser to the group.

In a statement today, BCorp said Datuk Seri Robin Tan Yeong Ching will accordingly relinquish his position as chairman of BCorp and will continue to remain as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company.

Vincent Tan announced his retirement from the board of directors of BCorp on February 23, 2012 citing his wish to focus on his philanthropic work.

During this period, he had embarked on various charitable and social programmes and initiatives but at the same time he continued to explore new business opportunities for BCorp as its founder and adviser.

“As you all know, even during my retirement I have been active in looking for new business opportunities for the group.

“Datuk Seri Robin has been an excellent chairman and CEO. He has strengthened the corporate organisation and best practices and the group has enjoyed steady growth and progress during his stewardship.

“However, I feel that after being away for five years, it is time I returned to the board to actively participate in the deliberation and decision-making at the board level in order to show my commitment and accountability to our stakeholders,” he said in the statement.
