Measures to ease rakyat burden amid higher fuel prices

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has identified a few measures to reduce the burden of people in the light of spike in fuel prices, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

While the government had yet to finalise the measures, he said any measure should be targeted at those who are affected by higher fuel prices.

"We can't find ways that can satisfy everybody. Therefore, the Prime Minister wants more time for us to look at it," Johari told reporters at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research’s National Economic Outlook Conference 2018-2019 here today.

Johari said if the petrol (RON95) is retailed at RM2.50 for three consecutive months, the government would intervene to ease rakyat's burden, particularly group B40 and below.

"If there is an increase of oil price, the government will use the additional gains to give back to the rakyat. We are looking into potential measures to see the most effective ways," he added.
