Jawi's marriage programme eases financial burden for ten couples

KUALA LUMPUR: Ten couples were united in marriage at the Akad Nikah Rahmah 2024 programme organised by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) at Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan here.

The couples, who all have a monthly income of less than RM4,500, were married by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Islamic Affairs Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

It is understood that the couples only need to pay the 'mas kahwin' while the bridal dais (pelamin), banquet and rings are provided by Jawi's strategic partners.

Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan, a representative of the sponsors, said they hope such arrangements will serve as an example to others in helping couples to wed.

He said that, indirectly, it can alleviate the burden on the couples and their families in organising wedding ceremonies.

"Costs can be saved when done collectively. The banquet and event management are also sponsored. We hope it serves as a blessing not only for the couples but for all parties involved," he said.

For Muhamad Adnan Abdullah, 52, and his wife Siti Mardiyah Mansor, 41, they did not expect to be chosen and only found out a few days before the solemnisation (akad nikah) ceremony.

"Alhamdulillah, this is the most beautiful memory for me and my wife when YB Minister (Mohd Na'im) officiated our marriage," said Muhamad Adnan.

"The minister's office contacted me and my wife to ask for permission and inform us that our solemnisation official tor for today's ceremony would be the minister.

"Alhamdulillah, I was not nervous, with a single attempt, my partner and I became husband and wife. This is the most beautiful blessing bestowed upon us by Allah SWT," he said.

Muhamad Adnan is a Person with Disabilities (PWD) as his left hand is paralysed due to an accident in 1989.

Sharing the advice conveyed by Mohd Na'im, he was advised to focus on tolerance within the relationship.

"YB also advised that all problems can be resolved through wise discussion between husband and wife.

"I am also very grateful to Jawi for organising this ceremony as well as to the other strategic partners.

"The good intention to establish a family is blessed with infinite blessings today," he said.
