Lazada's 12.12 sales rakes in US$250m

KUALA LUMPUR: Lazada Malaysia, together with Lazada Group, raked in US$250 million in gross merchandise value (GMV) for its 12.12 Grand Finale Sale held in tandem with the company’s recent Online Revolution campaign.

In a statement today, Lazada Malaysia said the 12.12 sales figure was more than double that achieved in the previous year and also shattered the 11.11 sales record of US$123 million.

“The company’s record-breaking performance in the Online Revolution campaign showcases the growing trust and relevancy of e-commerce in Malaysia and how it will continue to benefit Malaysian consumers, including the entire e-commerce ecosystem,” Lazada Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Hans-Peter Ressel said.

He said the 12.12 sales saw more purchases recorded from areas outside of Kuala Lumpur such as Kangar, Lundu, Tawau and Kota Kinabalu.

Introduced on Dec 12, 2012, the Lazada Online Revolution was aimed at encouraging consumers to experience the convenience and value of shopping online.

More than 135,000 local and international sellers dealing in 3,000 brands participated in the e-commerce campaign. -- BERNAMA
