Malakoff, Touch Meccanica to go into solar and hydro 

KUALA LUMPUR: Malakoff Corp Bhd and Touch Meccanica Sdn Bhd will be collaborating to develop energy projects in Pahang which include a large scale solar photovoltaic and mini hydro power projects.

The companies inked a memorandum of understanding to develop the renewable several energy projects in the state of Pahang.

They agreed to discuss on exclusive basis on matters related to the energy projects.

Malakoff will undertake a feasibility study on the projects.

Malakoff chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said the MoU serves as a platform to exchange knowledge and expertise.

"This also shows Malakof's commitment to expanding renewable energy in its generation portfolio. These projects will serve as a catalyst for Malakoff to plat a bigger role in developing RE projects in Malaysia.

"Currently, Malakoff owns a 50 per cent stake in Macarthur Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia, with an effective generation capacity of 210 MW," he said during the signing ceremony, here, today.

In Malaysia, Malakoff is the largest independent power producer with a net generating capacity of 6,346 MW from seven power plants.

Its international assets include power and water ventures in Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bahrain, Oman and Australia with an effective capacity of 690MW of power and 444,800 m3/day of water desalination.

Malakoff said it is actively looking to venture further in the Middle East and North African region as well as the South East Asian markets.

Meanwhile, Touch Meccanica has extensive land bank and state approved locations for the development of RE along Sungai Pahang and Semuji, Gambang.
