Pakistan undertakes all-out efforts to strengthen economic ties with Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan is undertaking all-out efforts to reap huge existing market potential by strengthening its bilateral ties with Malaysia.

Pakistani High Commissioner to Malaysia Mohammad Nafees Zakaria identified the areas that could be exploited to make the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) more effectively and highlighted the ongoing investment cooperation between the two countries.

“We emphasised that Pakistan is the fourth largest in the areas of cattle milk production and has a huge potentials in tourism and precious and semi-precious gemstones business that is left untapped by the Malaysia businessmen,” he said in a statement in conjuction with a recent meeting with the Malaysia–Pakistan Business Council (MALPAK) office bearers.

The high commissioner shared his vision and chalked out the strategies require to enhance bilateral, economic and trade relations.

Nafees and MALPAK representatives discussed at great length on the opportunities to build up the business between the two countries to a higher level.

The council members formally welcomed the high commissioner on January 27 and hosted a dinner in which important Malaysians, Malaysians of Pakistani origin and Pakistanis, mainly belonging to the business sector participated.

MALPAK chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Nazir Meraslam lauded Nafees’ keen interest in promoting business between the two countries towards enhancing bilateral economic cooperation.

Nazir also emphasised that there are potentials in the many areas including tourism and trade.

MALPAK was established in 2010 under the advice of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Over the years, the council worked along with the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to help in the effective implementation of the FTA between the two countries.

MALPAK participated in several exhibitions in Pakistan organised by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.

MALPAK also organised a visit by the Ministry of Agriculture along with the Ministry of Health to inspect the manufacturing facilities of seven different plants in Pakistan for the Malaysian halal certification.
