Malaysia wants to attract automotive investors from India

He said India is a strong emerging market, producing English brands like Jaguar and Land Rover which were thriving under the Tata company.

“This is my new agenda. I hope this will create an automotive hub where we can create a supply chain.

“I hope this (attracting automotive investors) had will come true and create 100,000 jobs in Perak,” he told reporters at his Chinese New Year open house at Gunung Rapat here today.

Ong said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir have already been briefed on the matter.

“They (Najib and Zambry) support the idea. We will ask them (Indian investors) if they are interested in opening an automotive hub in Malaysia to penetrate the ASEAN market,” he said.

On Feb 3, Najib launched the 386.6 hectare NAC which would feature dedicated areas for specific segments of the industry, such as hubs for green technology, electric cars and other technology components for a modern automobile, as well as, road system that would double-up as a test track for Proton. -- BERNAMA
