Prasarana to cut foreign operation and maintenance supplies by 20 per cent in five years

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd aims to reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers for operation and maintenance (O&M) by 20 per cent in five years.

Its president and group chief executive officer Masnizam Hisham said the current ratio of dependency between foreign and local suppliers was 80 per cent versus 20 per cent.”

She said Prasarana spent RM350million annually on O&M for all its lines.

“We do not have rolling stocks manufacturers. If we are able to nurture local companies to produce spare parts that meet the standards of train manufacturers, we will be able to reduce our dependence on foreign suppliers and save a significant amount of money.

“We are working with the Technology Depository Agency, an agency under the Finance Ministry, as well as the Malaysian Rail Industry Consortium and local rail industry players to achieve this objective,” she said after witnessing the signing of a landmark agreement between Prasarana and its strategic rail industry partners; Amantronic Sdn Bhd and LCE Resources Sdn Bhd.

Under the agreement, Prasarana authorises Amntronic to promote and market the onboard rail lubricant system and engages LCE Resources in the development of the Kelana Jaya line LRT platform screen door system for the Masjid Jamek, Dang Wangi, Kampung Baru, KLCC and Ampang Park stations.

Prasarana was represented by its chief infra services officer Ahmad Nizam Mohd Amin. Amantronic was represented by its chief executive officer Mohd Izwan Shah Mohd Sabri Daniel and LCE Resources was represented by its director Thai Kam Weng.
