Malakoff's TJSB secures 21-Year contract for Solar Plant O&M

KUALA LUMPUR:  Malakoff Corp Bhd’s subsidiary Teknik Janakuasa Sdn Bhd (TJSB) has secured an operation and maintenance (O&M) contract with a large scale solar photovoltaic power plant (LSS) with a capacity of 29MWac in Kota Tinggi, Johor.

The O&M agreement was signed between ZEC Solar Sdn Bhd and a consortium comprising TJSB and Zelleco Engineering Sdn Bhd for a period of 21 years, starting from December 2018.

ZEC Solar secured the project via first round of LSS competitive tender issued by the Energy Commission, Malakoff's exchange filing today showed.

The main scope of the agreement is to perform and provide services in relation to the operation, maintenance and repair of the said solar plant.

“Clearly, TJSB has been chosen due to its vast experience in operating and maintaining power generation facilities locally and abroad. TJSB currently operates & maintains six power plants in Malaysia and three overseas,” said its chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali.

The agreement marks Malakoff’s first foray into the O&M of renewable energy assets, expanding its O&M business to include both thermal, or conventional, and renewable energy power generation.

TJSB-Zelleco Consortium will incorporate a special purpose O&M company to carry out its services and obligations under the agreement.

The new entity is obliged to meet the standard performance guarantee for the solar PV plant’s operation.

On renewable energy, Malakoff currently owns a 50 per cent stake in Macarthur Wind Farm in Victoria, Australia, with an effective generation capacity of 210MW.

Earlier this year, Malakoff also signed a memorandum of understanding with Touch Meccanica Sdn Bhd to collaborate in the development of several renewable energy projects, particularly in large scale solar photovoltaic and small hydro power plants in Pahang Darul Makmur.
