Nestle appoints Nirmala Menon as new independent non-executive director

KUALA LUMPUR: Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd has appointed Datuk Dr. Nirmala Menon as a new independent non-executive director, following the retirement of Toh Puan Datuk Seri Dr. Aishah Ong and Tan Sri Datuk Yong Poh Kon.

A qualified medical practitioner, Dr. Nirmala has over 30 years of experience in the insurance and health sectors.

Prior to her career in the insurance industry, she was a medical officer at Hospital Kuala Lumpur for seven years.

Dr Nirmala has held prominent positions such as executive vice president, head of designated markets and health Asia at MetLife Asia Pacific Ltd and head of South Asia at ING Asia Pacific Ltd.

In addition, she made her mark as the first woman chief executive officer in the life insurance industry in Malaysia, helming ING Malaysia Bhd as president and CEO.

For her achievements, Dr. Nirmala was recognised as the “Leading Woman in Finance & Investment in Asia” in the prestigious Women in Leadership (WIL) Awards 2011.

She currently serves as an independent director of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

She will be joining Nestlé Malaysia’s board which comprises chairman Tan Sri Seri Syed Anwar Jamalullail, chief executive officer Alois Hofbauer, chief financial officer Martin Peter Kruegel, Tan Sri Dr. Rafiah Salim, Datuk Mohd Rafik Shah Mohamad and Datuk Frits Van Dijk.
